Hope Center fundraiser lights up Middlebrook
Close to 350 guests attended Southern Summer's Night, the annual fundraiser for the Hope Center hosted by Rick Fox and Ralph Cianelli at their historic home, Middlebrook. The event raised $132,000 for the Hope Center, established in 1996 to address, at no charge, the unmet needs of patients infected with HIV in Knox County and 20 surrounding counties. Bob and Carolyn Calloway, Jackie Lane, John Craig and Patricia Robledo, and Mary Ellen Brewington represented the East Tennessee Foundation.
n More than 350 guests attended the seventh annual Bridles & Blue Jeans, a benefit for Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding, whose mission is to foster personal achievement by providing therapeutic experiences using horse-related activities for persons with disabilities or other special challenges. Sponsors for the event, which raised more than $175,000, included Pilot Travel Centers, Xinergy Corp, Home Federal Bank, SunTrust Bank, LexLin Gypsy Ranch, EOD Technology Inc. and Cherokee Distributing.
Guests perused more than 190 silent auction items, indulged in tasty hors d'oeuvres and mingled in the barn. Master of Ceremonies Alan Williams from WVLT-TV Channel 8 welcomed guests, who enjoyed a dinner of steak, and shrimp and grits courtesy of O'Charley's and Wild Wing Cafe. The live auction kicked off with a memorable light stick ceremony where guests were asked to light a stick based on their connection to STAR. By the end of the ceremony, everyone in the room held a glowing stick. n Emerald Youth Foundation welcomed more than 1,000 guests to its annual fundraising breakfast at the Knoxville Expo Center. The event, presented by Mercy Health Partners with the support of Graham Corp, raised money for Emerald Youth Foundation, which takes the hands of at-risk boys and girls in the heart of Knoxville and walks with them until they are young adults.The replacement lighting we feel is far led downlight superior to that of the LED lighting. Highlights included music by the JustLead youth choir, which sang with local worship leaders Roger Williams and John Jackson; testimonials by JustLead youths Cryspin Nshirimimana, Emily Abbott, Taylor Kirk and Jimmy Robertson; and a scripture reading by Stacey Bussell, who is active in EYF's young adult ministry. WATE meteorologist and EYF board member Matt Hinkin served as emcee.
